We have become a partner of Eclipse Foundation. Eclipse is one of the world largest and more important Free and Open Source Software hosting and specification settings foundations. In Eclipse Array will also join the Oniro Working Group as a Silver Member.
Array is an array of IT lawyers concentrating in particular on Free and open source software, as well as open technology, data and content. In this capacity, Carlo Piana and Alberto Pianon have advised the Oniro Project since its inception, in a cooperation with the NOI Techpark of Bolzano and Huawei‘s Open Source Technology Center (OSTC). OSTC and other committers are donating it to the Eclipse Foundation. A Working Group has already been created.
Oniro is a new multi-kernel, multi-platform, fully open operating system dedicated to embedded and IoT devices, developed with Yocto. The legal implications of this setting are very complex and make achieving open source compliance a very demanding task. Such complexity requires the project to tackle this since the very beginning, with tools, strategies, education and good planning.
Alberto, in particular, has been active in devising new strategy and even authoring software for automating compliance. In this vein, we have developed an innovative Compliance Dashboard. We have also created “Aliens4Friends“, a toolset to make compliance easier. Aliens4Friends is under implementation in the CI/CD toolchain of the project. Also, we are advising on OpenChain conformance and driving OSTC to its achievement.
Joining the Working group, as one of the founding members, just seemed a natural evolution of it and we are glad of the opportunity.
